This playlist aims to help you learn about game design. Especially if you are an educator who wants to apply a game design process as an educational tool, it will guide you through the different steps to follow. It pretends to be a resource to reinforce a good implementation of this tool, promoting social inclusion and critical thinking among the participants.

It addresses the power of games, how to use them as an educational tool, how to be a good supporter in game design processes, the skills required and the different ways to use the tool. In addition, from the Game On project we focus on the relationship between game design and inclusion. The entire last section addresses how games and processes can be inclusive, what competencies for inclusion can be developed and how to achieve this.

This activity will introduce you on the understanding of inclusion on the Game On project and its relationship with games.

Within the framework of GameOn project, we believe that the game design process can and should be used as an inclusion tool. According to our experience, it certainly helps to engage diverse target groups at the local or/and international level and promote critical thinking.

Members of the diverse groups usually incorporate their own backgrounds, experiences, ability, heritage, and culture into their game development process. At the same time, inclusion of diverse target groups and team work during the development process grows the sense of empathy.

Before we dive deeper into it in the next activities of this learning playlist, it is worth stopping for a moment to reflect on what inclusion is. From the project we agree on the following definitions:

  • Inclusion: Inclusion is understood as the promotion of the participation of all people involved in a learning process, removing participation barriers for individuals and groups with lesser opportunities, and taking diversity among them as an asset.
  • Social Inclusion: Social inclusion is the process of improving the terms on which individuals and groups take part in society: improving the ability, opportunity, and dignity of those diverse or disadvantaged on the basis of their identity or condition.
